photos used here and the Polaroids used in the proposal were printed at foxprint.com. Shout out to them for being based in the SD area and delivering quality, speed, and great customer service.

Celebrating this day with our friends and our communities was a logical next step after the proposal. Getting her closest friends to hold the secret for a few weeks would be an exercise in trust but based on her reaction, they’re great secret keepers!

In my mind LA Eats has always been about enjoying food in the presence of friends, family, and the people we love. This day embodied all those qualities and more so I couldn’t think of a better project code name. Huge thanks to everyone for helping out and making this a reality!

Food: King’s Hawaiian BBQ, King’s Hawaiian Paradise Cake & Mocha Haupia Cake, Republic of Pie pies, Cream Pan Strawberry Croissants.

Decorations: alilweddingplanner.com and friends

Location: EFC Southbay. (K’s home church in LA)

Good job, Lawrence. Nice ring! Congrats to my cousin Katie! #shesaidyes #engagementring #putaringonit

The Proposal

LA_Eats_the_real_deal

Project Pseudo-Name: LA Eats – The Real Deal
Location: Signal Hill Park (aka Hill Top Park), Los Angeles
Photos courtesy of my dear friends over at Simplytwo.com

It was not intended to be anything grand. The location gave a quiet nod to the city of Los Angeles that had been the location of our first date and many after. The intimacy and quietness allowed us to focus on the thing that mattered: us. A relationship we were proud to have forged through years of dates, calls, and mutual edification, made it much easier to see this as an exciting step on our journey together.

My friends would shoot from at a distance which allowed K to fully experience the moment, without a camera in our face. This was my way of physically capturing the moment while keeping the words spoken between K & I as words that were meant…for us. I hope I never forget her face as I knelt on one knee.

In 2010, the last voicemail I received from my dad was a birthday message with the final words “find yourself a good girl”. He would have been happy to see this day.

How to make a wedding slideshow and enjoy it

We’ve all been there before. The lights go down at your friend’s wedding and the slideshow is about to start. Then it goes on…and on…and on. After a few minutes you’ve stopped paying attention and moved on to better things like food and conversation going on at your table.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
Steps:
  1. Get decent resolution photos in order. older facebook photos are fairly low resolution.
  2. Upload photos to a photo animation site: like animoto
  3. Add music
  4. Export videos

Extra steps:

  • Adjust individual photo lengths and/or add music in external movie editor (FCPX, iMovie, windows movie maker)
 Also at 3 songs x 3 min/each you’re looking at at least 75 pics/9 min that’s 8 pics a minute up to 12 pics a minute meaning 5-7 sec per picture.
My recommendation is to pic out the 15-20 pics that really stand out to you. 15-20 for the bride, 15-20 for groom, and 15-20 for the couple. It’ll be tough but it really is better to get a good look than to have all these pics whizzing by where you have no idea whats going on.
Especially if you have group pictures. Before anyone can spot you two or themselves the picture whizzes by.  It’ll be tough whittling down your pictures =/ but ultimately it’s your choice.

San Diego: The “Overview Tour”

I love the opportunity to show people around this fine fine city. There’s never a doubt that they’ll leave without desiring to come back. so today I had the opportunity to bring a consultant for my company around the great city of SD. This was his first time in California so I had to give him the big picture. What a day!

I dub this the “Overview tour”. feel free to share and expand on the list!

  1. UC San Diego: turned out to be admit day so tons of student tours and colorful balloons. campus sure cleans up well!
  2. La Jolla Shores: gots to see the beaches. scenic route from UCSD to shores is truly a breath-taking view. stopped by some multi-million dollar homes on the way down.
  3. Mt. Soledad: best vantage point in northern San Diego
  4. Scenic drive down Bird Rock, Mission Bay
  5. Mitch’s seafood (Point Loma): yelpers go to to Point Loma Seafood. locals go to Mitch’s. added bonus that this week is burger week! $5 burgers all week long. Blue cheese bacon burger and crab poutine. (www.sdcitybeat.com/sandiego/burgerweek for complete listings)IMG_1594
  6. Pt. Loma lighthouse: best vantage point in southern San Diego. Coronado island, downtown, harbour island views and glimpses of Mexico too. would have gone to the tidepools if there were kids.
  7. Scenic drive through downtown:  drive through harbor island, shelter island, SD convention center, and gas lamp districtIMG_1576
  8. Petco Park: this is a favorite spot of mine to bring visiting friends because it’s one of the few stadiums that lets people inside when there isn’t a game that day. BUT! on this day it was SD Padres fan fest and they had a free exhibition game against a Mexico City team. Totally unplanned. What better way to introduce America’s favorite past time than from behind home plate?!IMG_1585
  9. Stone Brewery: SD’s popular brewery with custom flight selections. IPA, Imperial stout, and a ruination. people sure seem to love their beers. fun for them. i like to people watch.  IMG_1588
  10. Balboa Park: speaks for itself…just go.IMG_1590
  11. El Zarape:  icing on the cake. 2 things one has to try in SD…seafood and mexican food. depending on your audience you go the greasy goodness route (Tacos El Gordo) or the clean and healthy route (El Zarape on Park Blvd. not Adams Ave). This place had great veggie options for vegetarians and 99 cent fish tacos all day every day for me!
